17th century ship flags
A recent query from a restorer made us look into 17th century ship flags. For some time we had been wondering whether flags on paintings were at all reliable sources for the identification of ships. In this particular case it did not take much time to find a number contemporary of sources of flags and symbols. From these we were able to compare and make a match to the flags in our specific painting. Henceforth identifying the ships and their respective countries of origin. |
