Balthasar van Haeften
Based on a study of the merchant ships in a marine painting, from the collection of one of Europe’s leading maritime museums, we were able to identify the first owner of this painting. The rather prestigious painting was most probably part of the collection of Balthasar van Haeften, an Amsterdam based merchant. It was valued at 18 Dutch Florins in Van Haeften's estate inventory in 1640. |
