Bonaventura Peeters (Antwerp 1614 - 1652 Hoboken)
This painting depicts a shipwreck at a rocky coast by the Flemish painter Bonaventura Peeters (1614-1652). The painting on panel was acquired at a small auction house. Research on the painter and his oeuvre, and technical research conducted on the paint layers and panel, has lead to an interesting and value enhancing conclusion. We have been able to date the painting rather precisely. The panel turned out to be a very rare example of an early shipwreck by this Antwerp master. Our research on the provenance placed the painting in an prominent English 20th century collection.
